Giant loop-de-loop Bridge

The venture of the global contest was to plan an iconic foot bridge in the centre of Amsterdam. The structural design of this innovative bridge would imitate modern design tendencies. The winning schemes not only attend to the specific function, but also take into consideration the urban insertion and impact geared towards creating a new architectural symbol for a European capital city.

The bridge is a construction made to span physical obstructions such as water bodies, for the reason of providing way over the obstacle. It is intended for pedestrians and cyclists, rather than vehicular traffic. Footbridges complement the landscape and can be used decoratively to visually link two distinct areas or to signal a transaction. Footbridges can be both functional and beautiful works of art and sculpture in their own right as seen in some of the most visited countries around world.

A distinguishing attribute of this project is to build a perpendicular importance, while the other proposals presented straight solutions. Due to the vertical prominence, the bridge can be seen from different points of vision and could become the governing symbol and this part of town. The main benefit of the project is an observation deck, located on the top of the loop. Amstel River and the view of the bay overlooks from the observation deck.
